New Community -- FM Status

I've created a new LJ Community, named fm_status. You can link to it at http://www.livejournal.com/community/fm_status/.

I'm going to use this as an off-site method of posting outages and other status updates. Those of you who want to know what's going on when you can't reach the Muck should watch that community. Thanks!

Not to seem unappreciative, but does that really need an outside news update? I mean, if you try to connect, and it wont connect, it's probably down. If you look outside and it's raining, it's probably wet.

You'd be surprised at not only how many people want to check someplace to see if it's down (vs. their own network being the problem) and how many more seem to want to know why it was down. I figured a status page, including announcements of planned downtimes, was a harmless way to spend a LJ-usercode. :)

Just make sure all reasons given fall into the following categories.

Acts of God.
Gremlins.
Acts of Witchcraft
Ducks
Forgetting to pay power bill.
Playing Planetside on FM server.
Spilled Dr. Pepper on motherboard.
Zeus being enraged!
Neglect of virgin sacrafice to tiki server god.

I liked it partially 'cus:
It isn't like I can get in inside update.
They are very good about announcing maintenance inside, but if I am not in to hear it then I have no clue why I can't get in whle the announced disruption is happening.
For my RL schedule knowing, for example, they are doing a server migration and expect to be down for 4 hours saves me the frustration and waste of trying to connect, the angst of letting down anyone I arranged to meet in at a certain time and lets me get on with my life faster by having the clear choice to go gym or movie or whatever.
For my inside relationships, it saves hurt feelings while a situation is happening instead of worrying now and information later.

I guess I like the idea .. be nice if I could join it though .. I'll just watch it instead.
