Okay, even I now admit this is way too nerdy for words: the Casio WQV-10 camera watch. I got it from an importer in Singapore for surprisingly little money, and it took about 7 days to ship in. Much to my surprise I just saw it in the 'sharper image' catalog for over double what I paid, even if I include shipping.

I won't even try to justify this blatant attempt to indulge my gadget-lust. Instead, I'll just play with it, grinning like a demented little kid.

For the curious, I'll use this directory on my ImageServer for a dumping ground as I upload pics from the field. If I'm at an event I'll use it for silly real-time snapshots.

On a practical scale, this thing is less than useless. Its maximum resolution is as you see it in these tiny pics. These aren't thumbnails -- these are entire images! It's all about the fun-factor, as a result. However, there is one practical use, though it's stretching it a bit.

My Nokia 9290 has a really nice, extendable contact database. This database uses the lastest vCard format, which includes the ability to add a picture up to 320x240 to help put a face with the name. The watch and the phone will talk directly to each other via a protocol known as IrTran-P. This means that when I make a new contact card all l have to do is type their info in, and then point my wrist at them and take a quick pic. Either right then or a little later, I point the watch at the phone and the photo transfers in about 3 seconds, and I click a few buttons to add it to their contact card, like so:

As my memory has a TERRIBLE name/face association problem (it takes me days of repeated dealing with someone to remember their name), this might actually prove useful over time. Then again, I fully acknowledge this is just yet another toy in a lifelong desire to play with little mechanical/eletronic things.
