I usually avoid the 'type tests' that I see smattered around LJ. However, I followed [livejournal.com profile] foxmagic's cue and tried the nine types test. While I fully believe that there are too few questions asked which are way too general (i.e., could be answered either way), the type I turned out to be fits me scarily well... to the point I wanted to post the results.

(My notes are in parenthesis)

The Adventurer [the Seven]
Adventurers are energetic, lively, and optimistic. They want to contribute to the world.

How to Get Along with Me

Give me companionship, affection, and freedom.
Engage with me in stimulating conversation and laughter.
Appreciate my grand visions and listen to my stories. (Definately... if only I could bring myself to tell them to more people)
Don't try to change my style. Accept me the way I am. (Ding.)
Be responsible for youself. I dislike clingy or needy people.
Don't tell me what to do.

What I Like About Being a Seven

being optimistic and not letting life's troubles get me down
being spontaneous and free-spirited
being outspoken and outrageous. It's part of the fun. (only semi-applies. I tend to tone down some of the outspokenness)
being generous and trying to make the world a better place
having the guts to take risks and to try exciting adventures
having such varied interests and abilities

What's Hard About Being a Seven

not having enough time to do all the things I want (ooo, oo, pick me! You got it.)
not completing things I start (and this, even moreso)
not being able to profit from the benefits that come from specializing; not making a commitment to a career (This one doesn't apply too well. The 'career' is going surprisingly well. I think the point here is that my career is something I can easily shuffle to the background so it doesn't get in the way of the things I really want to explore.)
having a tendency to be ungrounded; getting lost in plans or fantasies (Daydream believer? yeah, that's me)
feeling confined when I'm in a one-to-one relationship (Actually... I guess this is right. Never thought about it, but yeah... hmmm. Must think on this.)

Sevens as Children Often

are action oriented and adventuresome
drum up excitement
prefer being with other children to being alone
finesse their way around adults
dream of the freedom they'll have when they grow up

Sevens as Parents

are often enthusiastic and generous
want their children to be exposed to many adventures in life
may be too busy with their own activities to be attentive

Again, I think these tests try to determine too much from too little input. Still, they can provide anything from a set of guidelines to a wishlist when it comes to a way to express one's personality. I can't exactly say how much of this description is me, vs. being simply what I wish to be... it's hard to validate such things without external input. And now to head on in to work...

I had to stop with the very first question...
'I've been

romantic and imaginative.
pragmatic and down to earth.'

I am both.

In case you're interested, your mom is a "7" and your old man is a "9".

Bye, Ya'll

Firstly: Beware of short versions of these tests, as they tend to be even less accurate than the long versions (which are only moderately useful to begin with).

Secondly: Beware of the descriptions of the personality types for such tests, as all will be written to be appealing, and so you'll likely be reasonably satisfied with any of them.

That having been said, these tests are a fun toy and, if applied correctly, can be a useful tool if you remember their limits }:>.

My own type?

Artist.

This, for someone who can list three potentially possible methods for FTL travel off the top of his head, give you a detailed description of neutron star guts, and who designs ion drive craft and integrated circuit chips for fun. And whose least-late owed picture has been hanging for several years.

Second place is Peacemaker. While I might agree to "easygoing", I've started more flame wars and debates than I've stopped, by a long shot.

Thrid place is Leader or Helper. Helper I can accept, but I tend to annoy subordinates too much to be a good leader };>.

Thinker and Skeptic, which were my own first two choices, are way down the list.

(Stupid cat realizes that these are absolute scores [high is best match], not place-indicators [low is best match].)

Ooops }:>.

First place is a tie between "Reformer" and "Skeptic".

Second place is "Thinker".

And I apparently killed my inner romantic long ago };>.
