Mar. 15th, 2002 08:03 pmPardon me whilst I do not follow the herd so much as amble in the same general direction... and try this 'Friday Five' thing.
1. What's your favorite animal? Erg. Wide question. I really like housecats, and I'm fascinated by the big cats. I get along exceptionally well with horses but due to being a suburbanite for the last decade, I can't be around them much. I don't care too much for most dogs, but there are a few exceptions. If you stray away from the pet/companion-animal theme, I'd definately add in rhinos. No, not just for in-character reasons. :) They're just kind of cool and I've always thought so... ever since seeing some really good documentaries on them when I was a kid and getting to see them in San Diego not long after. I lived in Huntington Beach back then.
Overall favorite? Housecats. The bigger, the better. I don't mean fat; I feel sad for fat cats, knowing personally how much it stifles having a good life. I mean *big*, like, 'egad, is that a housecat or a puma?'. The kind of cat that can knock you down and demand to be petted.
2. What pets have you had in your lifetime? Cats... many, many cats over the years. The longest lived was 23years. My whole family is into cats. Dogs -- when on the farm, we had two coon-dogs. They were the dumbest animals on the planet, and we loved them dearly. The stupider they got, the more loveable they became. Horses -- for a brief period of my life. I got to be the caretaker for 4 adopted Mustangs. Twister and his mob were my best buddies through a handful of highschool years, and I miss them dearly. They had to stay (with a very trusted ranch-owner and friend, luckily) back in Michigan when I came out to California to build my career. Various fish, esp. the Bettas all my friends and I had in college.
3. Is there any specific pet that you've wanted but never had? Why? Not really. I actually don't like owning pets... but I dearly love entertaining/caring for/buying stuff for the pets of others, esp. housemates and family members. This is a combination of both my unstable life (up until my California move) and my guilt of being too busy to be a pet's primary caretaker (after the California move)... and the more worrisome issue I have about being deathly afraid of a pet getting injured/neglected/abandoned while in my care. That's a subject for another LJ entry later... and also the subject of a terrible dream that threw me down this week, that I'm still not fully ready to talk about. Soon. (thank goodness such harsh dreams only happen ever 2-5 years or so, for me)
4. Are you allergic to any animals? Nope. About the only thing I've found issues with is poison ivy (like most humans) and strawberry milk.
5. Do you have any 'pet' peeves (your pets or others')? The usual things apply here... irresponsible owners/caretakers and folks who buy pets as Fashion Accessories and have the pet surgically altered to fit into their lifestyle. However, my true pet peeve is the fact that I'm not emotionally equipped to witness either cats or horses being sick, mistreated, abused, or abaondoned. The sight of a dumped housecat trying to fend for itself from behind a fastfood restaurant will have many times the impact on my emotional state than will seeing a messy traffic accident or hearing about a gory person-against-person crime on the news. If ever a cat in my care became injured or, say, I forgot to fill the dishes before leaving for a weekend and they had to go without food and water for a day or two, I'd just freak out once I found out. I mean really freak out, as in major self-guilt-trip. This is why I don't have pets: I festoon wonderful attentions and care upon those owned by others instead.

6. What am I going to do this weekend?
I'm going to ride the livin' heck out of my new 1150GS Adventure motorcycle. It's one of the first ones in the state and I'm going to go milk the 15-minutes-of-fame it should generate for all it's worth. This will involve motoring off to the handful of good biker-gathering spots I know, and a few dealerships. Alice's Restaurant should be a hoot. Sunday I'm doing another photoshoot, this time for Jimmy and his friends, up in Fremont. A few more of these for practice and I might actually get good at this image-snapping hobby of mine.
