My roomate [livejournal.com profile] revar graciously invited me to ConJose on Labor Day, just to get me out of the house. I was bummed about the GS spoke problem as well as needed a little breathing room after another housemate and a nearby friend had spent most of Sunday being very grouchy at me; getting out would be a Good Thing. ConJose is only a few miles from our house, so it makes for a short ride in the white VW-newbug.

A one day membership on the last day was only $40, which Revar bought for me; that really made my day. Thanks again! The con itself, however, was spookily empty compared to the previous WorldCon I'd been do (ChiCon, in the early 90's). We went to one panel on webcomics, which turned out to be 8 people in a room talking about their cats and just about anything other than web-comics. Ahwell. One of these years I have to attend a CCI (what used to be known as San Diego ComiCon), as it's probably a better venue for webcomics things. Revar and I do enough for the webcomics industry we stand a chance of being actually useful in discussions about the subject.

The rest of the con-day was spent being a lobby rat, and chatting with passers-by. We saw [livejournal.com profile] tuftears and a few others we knew, and actually sat around and chatted with other local friends I'd not seen in a long time. That was quite enjoyable, actually. Bryce accepted our invite and came out to a late lunch at Henry's HiLife with us. Steak and kegged root-beer... mmmMMmm. I hadn't gotten a chance to see Bryce for any length of time since I last lived in Sunnyvale, some 8 years ago. He's a pretty cool person that I've got a lot of respect for. I had hoped to spot other friends (like Micah) and get to say hi, but it wasn't to be, so we headed home shortly after eating out.

A spot of bumming around at [livejournal.com profile] reality_fox's place followed, along with proper amounts of harrasing his cat Ozzie. I miss having Oz around the house. He's an 18lb furball of doom, who reminds me of a black version of Krosp, the cat-construct from the Girl Genius comic. Oz is just quite the cat. The rest of the day was spent lounging about, and trying to get a little personal space back. Dusty showed up for a bit and we worked on posting the last of the big trip pictures from March -- another overdue task that I'd neglected for way too long.

All in all, the weekend went pretty good. Stresses around the house, and crossed communications with a friend on Sunday made for some angsty moments, but the rest was plenty decent. It was the first year in ages I'd not been out at BurningMan, and I dealt with the playa-withdrawl decently well. I wrote a letter off to the friend I'd screwed up scheduling with (which was quite well my fault), in an attempt to fix things up a bit. No response yet, so we'll see how that goes as the week progresses.
