It's been a strangely quiet week. Not only have I not posted anything, but I've not felt the need to either. Most of my closest friends have also been questing for content; the few who have posted made entries about how boring or simplistic life's been lately. It's just kind of odd to see happen all at once.

I do need a change of pace, though. All this stuff coming in at once: major diet changes, major shift at work (a move to new digs), rejoining the gym, shifting the online Mucking habits, spending a month and a half fiscally dead, getting back into dating... and then a bunch of quiet. Very square-waveish. I keep finding myself on the edge of just Going Somewhere, but each weekend has instead become a list of smaller things. Each fun, some incredibly so (as with the 'dating' comment earlier), but none of them a proper break with any real distance or time. It's been ages since I left on a friday night only to get back early Monday morning from some distant area.

A lot of this is getting the mix right: money, time, desire and equipment all peaking with enough warning to combine them into a weekend. The added bonus of having a friend along is even more rare. I really need to either sell the van and replace it with something more reliable, or spill $5k into the dang thing to fix it up for another five years of lifespan. As much as I hate to admit it, a four-wheeled vehicle is the key to having friends along, as it's been well proven that my local buddies don't share my love of the long-road on two wheels. (correction: there is one who does, but his work eats his life so it's rare he can.)

This weekend is close. I won't have much greenery, but for the first time in 6 weeks all the bills will be paid and a nominal sum left over. I won't be 'on duty' at work. As rambled in an earlier post, I really do have a desire to motor out to Boulder City and see my old digs... maybe circling part of Lake Mead. The weather is right, as it's warm but not stupid-hot. The bikes are in good working order, and while both are close to their service intervals they're safe for 1-2K miles. The cautious side of me says to wait a few more weekends for another paycheck and to get the services done early (about $400 on each bike, yowza) and have more 'road buffer' money, and maybe nose a few friends to see if anybody frees up. It's just that I've done that all summer and the end result was No Trips. There are also potential living-arrangement and work changes in the season upcoming that might keep me from future plans.

A tiny bit of summer is still left, weatherwise, at least for us Californians. I should make the best of it... but I've still got plenty to think out before I do.
