Ready for the Monsters

tugrikToday was my annual pilgrimage to Liquid Light, though it was a few months late. Normally I go before BurningMan to acquire mass quantities of blinkies, lightsticks and assorted glowing nonsense, and we use the leftovers for halloween. Having missed the festival this year I had no stock on hand, and I didn't want to let down the munchkins. After giving out all manners of glowing and shiny silly things over the years, our house has earned quite a reputation for the gifts.
Two tubes (50ea) of tri-color cyalume necklaces, a big ol' bag of the 6" glowsticks in various colors, a few dozen LED blinky-things and a few other scattered glow-toys now sit in a bin aside the huge bowl of candy, ready for tomorrow night. When I get home for lunch tomorrow I'll start stringing the LED blinkers in the trees and along the house. The kids will be at the door at or before dusk; they know to come to our place first to get the lights to trick-or-treat with the rest of the night. They come again in the late evening, knowing I'm a sucker for giving out the last of the candies in big handfuls to any who'd take. That way I don't end up eatin' them myself.
I never could get into halloween. I'm not big on costumes, creepy stuff, nor the holiday itself. But I really do groove on seeing the streets full of parents and kids laughing and playing, enjoying the light-up junk I hand out. The side benefit of knowing it helps keep 'em visible to traffic just makes me smile all the more.
OK, one thing I do love about this time of year: roasted pumpkin seeds. Now if only I could convince my sister to make me a fresh batch.... *mmmm*
