So here I am, minding my own business as I try to wait out a very basic headcold, chatting with a few friends online. I don't want to talk about shuttles, muck-angst or any of the other unfun things going on this past week. Instead I'm just enjoying some good quality time with my online family and actually relaxing.

This gets interrupted by a tiny, innocent little *urp*... most likely prompted by the ucky NyQuil I had to take earlier for the headcold. A moment later, it's like someone's fired a blowtorch down my throat. AIIUGH. I think it must have been the soda at the theater earlier, as I skipped dinner since the cold had me feeling bleah... but I had enough acid built up that I don't think I've ever been burnt that bad.

Gaviscon, liquid antacid, and my usual Prevacid prescription had to work as a triple-team to stop this, and it only had marginal effects. Now I'm all sore, cranky, and up way too late with a cold. Normally acid reflux doesn't cause me much direct pain. Instead, I get the 'after effects' like loss of energy and chest soreness, etc. This is the first direct-boot-to-the-throat in literally years, and it seriously sucks... enough for me to health-rant about it, something I don't like to do.

I'll stop bitching now and just sit back for another hour while things return to normal, so I can get some sleep.

Acid Reflux sucks. I can't take the meds they gave me before since they just make it worse. I have found however that eating something like bread makes it get alot better at least for awhile.

Just a note...

One of my coworkers had acid reflux very bad. He learned that he actually had something called "Barrett's Esophagus". Fortunantly he was able to get into a program where he received yearly (or more) check-ups. At his last check-up they found that he had cancer in his esophagus and he's going in next week for surgery. What they have to do to remove it is truly awful and I'm very scared for him.

The point of this anecdote being 'always keep your doctor informed what's going on'. I thought acid reflux was just an annoying thing but now I know it can signal and/or lead to much more serious issues.

aaaactually....

I really try to not harp on health stuff in my journal. The last thing I want to be is one of those people who whine about their 'conditions' too much. I'm under full and proper treatment for acid reflux, and have been tested multiple times for Barrett's and related conditions. That camera-thing that they stick down your throat really sucks! I'm on two medicines for reflux, and it usually behaves very well. So yeah, I know how ugly and bad it can get. It was stomach cancer that got my friend McMoo, and acid reflux can be an indicator and/or a cause of that... so I watch it very carefully. _very_.

I'm greatful for the concern. No real worries here, though. I'm taking care of myself and bein' good. :)
