Glue-fail

Quick update on the stickers mentioned in the last post. I printed them out on HP "universal adhesive vinyl" media (the roll I had in stock) and tried one on my car. 24 hours later and it's hanging halfway off, ready to fall off completely. While the surface of this media is a good, UV-survivable outdoor one, it appears this glue is meant for putting on a window as a storefront display. Bumpers? Not so much. I need to find something with a stronger bond to put up with airflow and road debris. Considering how close it is to the election I'm not sure I can get a roll of something more appropriate in and printed up in time to do any real good. Grrf. I'm hoping Peggy will post a .jpg of the illustrator file she made for folks to download their own if they have a suitable sticker-paper.

You need a special vinyl for automotive applications. I used to work with the stuff on a large format Mimaki JV3 printer. It uses a special UV curable solvent ink. Otherwise you would need to cold laminate your bumper stickers.

Your best bet? Make a design and outsource the printing to an online service. You can find several online. Perhaps the cheapest way would be to make many mini sized magnets on one layout and have them printed at Vista Print. For $9 you could probably get, oh, about 8 or so of them made. Bumper stickers might be cheaper, but Vistaprint doesn't do them unfortunately. Oh, you could get 10 large post card sized magnets for the same price. I usually get them for free with shipping and upload fee, but I'm an established customer. They usually take a few weeks though. The only other option if you want them to last would be to find a place that does short run bumperstickers with quick turn around.

The stickers you gave me stuck fine on the back of the miata for the week I had it before I got it repainted.

Hrrrm. Maybe it's the plastic body on the Element. Was yours directly on metal/paint?

Uh. Well, honestly, I used an alchohol pad to wipe the pain, but the paint was so old, that it started to melt off, so I dried it and stuck the sticker on to the roughened surface. :P

Good luck out there
