I'm on call so I can't go anywhere. Hrmf. As long as I'm stuck at home I might as well tear apart the car and integrate things better. I picked up the parts over lunch today to enable this.

The plan, so far:

  • Open up the dash without hurting it (downloaded the .PDF manual today, so that should work)

  • Cut a small notch-pair for the GPS-power and GPS-voice cables

  • Find a place inside to hide the GPS speaker

  • Install the GPS-power cable to +12V-acc

  • Install the new HON-AUX converter and hook it to the XM radio

  • Re-assemble dash without scratching up everything

  • Disassemble overhead console and install the radar-detector power cord there; reassemble

It sounds easy enough, and I hope it is. When I'm done I should have a nice cable-free dash again, with the XM and GPS operating as if built-in, and my AUX-IN jack once again clear for use for the mp3 player without requiring the usual cable-jungle. Having the radar detector is a nice bonus, but I need to find the mirror-clamp mount that's hiding in the garage somewhere.
