We dressed up the old Vendo96 for the party.

Mad props to [livejournal.com profile] shatterstripes for the Illustrator work and [livejournal.com profile] smackjackal for the fine Vanna White work. :)

Is there an LED hidden under the bottle, a blacklight, or is that liquid really glowing? };>

You know, I'm not sure! I'm not really into the Fallout community, that'd be the first place to start would be Fallout forums. Maybe Kotaku?

I suspect the machine would be unhappy if you fed it bottle caps, though.

Kotaku is a good bet. They post stuff like this all the time, and they're fairly popular.

I just found the pics through stumble, then the photo stream they were in and tracked them back to here. I just had to tell you how incredibly awesome that looks. The graphics on the machine are incredible (as is the PipBoy!) and the glowing nuke cola...pure awesome. I'm assuming there's an LED hidden at the base? Really great work! :)

Thank you for the kind words! Where were they on stumble? (I don't use the service so I'm not sure how it works...)

The Nuka-Cola Quantum is actually a Mikes Hard Lemonade with a new label and an aquamarine Nichia LED taped against the base for the photo. It worked out far better than we'd hoped! :)

Whu-hah? How did you make it glow? Is that an actual drinkable soda or did you toss a bunch of luminescent/phosphorescent/ultraviolet junk in a bottle? Dude, if I had a recipe for a drink that glowed and tasted good I'd be a multi-millionare overnight...

Another way to do a Nuka-Cola Quantum (I have one on my mantel): tonic water. It has enough quinine in it to glow really nicely blue when right in front of a blacklight. Alternately, you could use a UV LED taped to the bottle, too. Best part is that you can mix tonic water with regular drinks and they glow too, though a bit less so.

I just need to print out one of those Quantum labels for the bottle sometime. :-}

I thought hte graphics work and glowing soda was awesome, but had to google to find out WTF Nuka Cola actually was.

I fail at game reference.

Cola. Cola never changes.

The end of the cola wars ended pretty much as we expected it.

Too much fructose, not enough cane sugar. The tyranny of the franchised plants extended their dominion across all the world; and off brands fell like grass before their fires.

The world was bathed clean in a sparkling, refreshing holocaust; the taste of lemon-lime became synonomous with death. The bitter tang of aspartame, all that remained.

In the past, a great man once arose. A Doctor, Pepper. He travelled the world healing the sick tastebuds. But in time, even he too, was corrupted. He became a tool for the tyrannical, another weapon in their arsenal.

Your father.

Now, your village grows thirsty. The orange groves that sustained them have withered and died. Beyond the village walls lies a wasteland of barbarians, Fruitopians, and corn syrup.

The gates sweep open for you, Mr. Pibb.

What will you do?

Massively late reply. Michael is currently playing Fallout 3, and I had something tickling the back of my mind. Where have I seen this before.

...and then I remembered.
