As I jog between home, work, vendors, colocation centers, and other errands -- I'm finding the only 'notepad' that I've kept in arms reach is the 'net. I hate Palms, and the PDA I want isn't out for another 30-45 days (the Nokia 9190). So, if I want to remember things, I usually email myself, or stick notes up on a web-page. I'll try keeping a quick 'stuff left to do' list here on LJ for a few days and see how well that functions, just as an experiment.

Things that must get done:

1. Replace tires. I've got an appt. Friday morning with CalBMW to do this. If the Avons that Dusty ordered aren't in by Thursday night, then CalBMW is holding a set of Tourances for me instead. That's an extra $200 (ow), but money well spent vs. not changing the tires at all.
2. Select and pack clothing/dailystuff. I always wait until the last minute to do this. Clothes are just so terribly unimportant to me, I'm afraid. Weird, I know.
3. Get my riding boots back from Dusty's buddy up in San Leandro. I must do this after work tomorrow (today?). Like a dorf I left them in his trailer after the AMA races.
4. Pick up the 'wing from service, as they'll charge me a Ton of Cash to store it for two weeks if I don't.
5. Prep the D30 still camera and get it packed for travel.
6. A good 20-50 mile test ride, with lots of bumps and bashes about, to doublecheck the new connections and mountings with full luggage. Fix anything that wobbles loose. Ditch anything that can't be fixed.

Things that I'd like to get done but would make the trip less enjoyable if I didn't.

1. Get the GPS from Farix, now that it's been programmed. Wire in its power supply.
2. Get the video camera mounted if the mount ships here on time (tomorrow). Buy tapes for said camera. Wire in its power supply as well.
3. Print up some maps of various parts of the route. They will give us maps, but the word from the Buell guys is that they're _sucky_ maps. I've got a great map-gen program, so I figure I should actually use it. :)
4. Prep up the little laptop (my sister calls it 'the barbie laptop': one of the old Sony VAIOs that's really tiny but really wimpy) for photo-uploading. I could use it from the motel rooms at night to send pics up to the website.

Additional stuff that doesn't need to happen, but if I could pull it off, cool:

1. Get the D60 prepped in time. There's a 50% chance it'll ship out on Thursday, which squeaks it in to me just in time on Friday. If they don't ship by Thursday at 10am... call and cancel the order. I'll waitlist another one in another month or two. (I've waited for this current one for about 20 days, in hopes of having it for this trip. If they miss the deadline, I have no real reason to have it for another month or two.)
2. Fill a few spare CF cards with more mp3s than what I've got in the player right now. Variety is good.
3. Figure out a few finishing touches here and there to make the bike look meaner, just for fun.

Bonus Feature: Nekkid bike!

This is what the GS looks like when I've got it apart to install new toys.

The bike looks downright skinny and silly with the tank and seat off... kind of like how a wet cat looks bedraggled and small. :)

The Autocom went in with a little finagling. I hardwired the power and PTT; the rest sits in the left hand tank pannier bag. The cables showing are the power, headset, and PTT leads. The smaller cable going to the top-bag is the audio line to the MP3 player. IT works well, and not much shows. The flash makes the wires stand out much more than they really do. The Push-to-talk switch is in perfect reach, as is the headset cord (Seen laying on the tank in that pic)... and if I take the tankbags off, I only have two cables to tuck away, which isn't bad.

T-minus 60 hours and counting... *tick tick tick*
