I won't even get into the start of Day 0. I'm not even going to call it 'day 1', as it wasn't worth calling it that -- at least the first half of the day, anyways. As it was one of those days where everything that can go wrong, will go wrong... I won't drag out the details. A summary would be that I did finally make it out of San Jose at about 3pm, minus a few parts I wanted, short on sleep, and vaguely annoyed at the workplace.

175 miles later at our first gas stop in San Louis Obispo, I felt much better. It's amazing how much riding will calm the lashing-tail'd blue beast. Sure, my backside hurt due to the stiff seat of the GS, but the rest of me felt a world better.

375 miles, an even more sore posterior, 8 cop cars waiting in speedtraps (none of which stopped us) and one notably cold nightfall later -- and we were at Frang's house. We arrived there around 10:30pm. Our evening consisted of about a halfhour of friendly chat, and then keeling over dead for the night, much to Frang's amusement. He played the good host and ambled off to his room to keep working as we sprawled out across couch and floor.

The only notable good thing during the trip was calming down -- this run (SF to LA) was one I'd done many times, and there's nothing too remarkable about the terrain. A few spots of wicked wind made for challenges, and a little lanesplitting south of Gilroy helped us keep pace when the traffic slowed down for a 5 mile stretch. The only worth-mentioning bad part was losing the nut to my left hand mirror somewhere on the road, causing me to have to yank the mirror out of its holder and stuff it in the tankbag until we reached LA. Now I know the wisdom of a fellow GS rider on the board I frequent, whose tagline says: Use Loc-Tite, or Kiss your Nuts Goodbye.

LA, as always, has way too many humans in it. We hid amongst them, and slept. Tomorrow brings San Diego.
