At the urging (or is it egging on?) of close friends coupled with a simple winter-season desire for change, I went ahead and hacked the mane down to a reasonable length again. Ok, so it had gotten a little long...

This is about a year's growth, since I'd bobbed it short last year after FC. My hair grows way too stupidly fast. I've recently (3 weeks ago) shaved the sides to the scalp so they've not grown out enough to make a good look of things. Another few weeks and I'll go to a proper stylist and get a real haircut instead of just a short-hair-making. The reason for the B/W photo, if you must know, is the lighting plus the tiny camera used made for this terrible red skin tone I just didn't have the tools at 3am to remove. B/W makes it easy.

I've cut it from this length or longer about 5 times now. I still have 3 of those braids. It's amusing to see how the color has changed over the years. The only thing I regret is not taking a picture with my hair laid out at full length mohawk style; it was impressively long even up top. I also miss having the beads/braids. They were interfering with my motorcycle helmet during my big batch of summer rides and between my schedule and that of my sisters' the time was never found to re-do them properly.

I do like the liberating feel of not having hair get in the way. I'll probably use this short-haired time to try out some wild-but-officeOK cuts and/or maybe some properly Tuggish coloring experiments. If any go awry I have no problem just shavin' me melon. Within a month it's a servicable length again, and within a year it's down to my midback; no real loss.

And to those who "aiee!"d at me about having lost the nice long mane: Fear not. Even short like this, it's still floofy as heck. Just no jangly braids for a while.

I cannot BELIEVE your hair grows that fast. I envy you.

Copy-paste that second bit. I have gimpy hair that only looks good in the 1-2cm range and only grows a couple inches a year, but I really want long hair. So much envy.

Wow. Haven't seen yer melon in real life yet, but from this picture I really like how it looks. Excellent.

And yes, let me add that it's totally disgusting how long and thick and fast your hair grows in. :P

ACtually, I kinda like the current "not-cut". It's tidy, professional-looking, and suits you. Maybe it's just the angle.

If you've still got the hair, and it grows so darn quickly (o.O), you might want to consider donating it to Locks of Love. I did you know. :) You look nice with short hair, but then again, you look nice with long hair too. Just do what makes you happy, it will grow back. ^_^

Wow. That picture.. *laughs* It looks like you've just killed someone and taken their hair as a prize. XD

*grins* But it looks good now, too. You pull off the short hair look really well - whereas, IMHO, I do not. -:)

Holy cow, that's a lot of hair to chop off in one go.
Doesn't your neck feel chilly? Don't you miss it? ;)

Kudos, though. You just gotta do it blue, now. Cool. :)

Hubby's hair was about that long when he hacked it off. He donated it to Locks Of Love - they make hairpieces for kids that have lost their own from cancer treatments. I donated my Big Hacking, when I had it done years ago.

My neck doesn't feel *too* chilly because this last round of long-hair I spent almost every day with it tied in a high-top knot, leaving my neck free. I don't miss it too much 'cause I have done the big-chop thing multiple times now. I did have a 'eek my head isn't weighted right' sensation for the first few hours, though, making me look down too much. :)

I would love blue hair, but I can never seem to bleach this deep-red hair enough for it to take a good blue coloring. Multiple tries, multiple failures. Considering other options now.

Love the long hair, but I never got to play with it so it wasn't a huge loss to me.
A friend with nappy hair (umm no offense intended. I am using that soley to accurately describe texture) puts it regularly in tiny braids with fine BRIGHT blue fabric (grograin etc) ribbons. She ends uplooking like she has blue hair. It washes. You do braids anyhow, maybe consider doing a small cluster of blue ribbon dredy braids?

Whenever I get mine cut drastically, there's always that niggling panic about nothing swishing when I turn my head. Not to mention the cold-ears light-head sensation.

Red hair does not dye, this I know. When I had blonde highlights put in, they went rusty green and cotton-candy pink, and I had them done professionally.
We of the red hair are so cursed. ;>
But if you find a colour that keeps, and keeps well, be sure to tell me about it!

I dont think I could cut my hair again. Everytime I did before it was a highly emotional time in my life and just reminds me of pain.

I have a feeling that I'll look like Gallager by the time I'm 50

Yep mine grows that fast too, however I dont have nice manageable hair like you do. If mine gets over 2 inches, it resembles kudzu.

Sure... but it doesn't stop me from being surprised / embarrased / appreciative of such. It's not that common a thing and I really enjoy it when it happens, even if I do tend to hide behind things embarrasedly when called on it. :)
