Fine. *snort* I did it.
Nov. 23rd, 2003 03:12 amAt the urging (or is it egging on?) of close friends coupled with a simple winter-season desire for change, I went ahead and hacked the mane down to a reasonable length again. Ok, so it had gotten a little long...

This is about a year's growth, since I'd bobbed it short last year after FC. My hair grows way too stupidly fast. I've recently (3 weeks ago) shaved the sides to the scalp so they've not grown out enough to make a good look of things. Another few weeks and I'll go to a proper stylist and get a real haircut instead of just a short-hair-making. The reason for the B/W photo, if you must know, is the lighting plus the tiny camera used made for this terrible red skin tone I just didn't have the tools at 3am to remove. B/W makes it easy.
I've cut it from this length or longer about 5 times now. I still have 3 of those braids. It's amusing to see how the color has changed over the years. The only thing I regret is not taking a picture with my hair laid out at full length mohawk style; it was impressively long even up top. I also miss having the beads/braids. They were interfering with my motorcycle helmet during my big batch of summer rides and between my schedule and that of my sisters' the time was never found to re-do them properly.
I do like the liberating feel of not having hair get in the way. I'll probably use this short-haired time to try out some wild-but-officeOK cuts and/or maybe some properly Tuggish coloring experiments. If any go awry I have no problem just shavin' me melon. Within a month it's a servicable length again, and within a year it's down to my midback; no real loss.
And to those who "aiee!"d at me about having lost the nice long mane: Fear not. Even short like this, it's still floofy as heck. Just no jangly braids for a while.

Kudos, though. You just gotta do it blue, now. Cool. :)

Date: 2003-11-23 07:55 pm (UTC)I would love blue hair, but I can never seem to bleach this deep-red hair enough for it to take a good blue coloring. Multiple tries, multiple failures. Considering other options now.

Date: 2003-11-23 08:31 pm (UTC)A friend with nappy hair (umm no offense intended. I am using that soley to accurately describe texture) puts it regularly in tiny braids with fine BRIGHT blue fabric (grograin etc) ribbons. She ends uplooking like she has blue hair. It washes. You do braids anyhow, maybe consider doing a small cluster of blue ribbon dredy braids?

Date: 2003-11-23 08:34 pm (UTC)Red hair does not dye, this I know. When I had blonde highlights put in, they went rusty green and cotton-candy pink, and I had them done professionally.
We of the red hair are so cursed. ;>
But if you find a colour that keeps, and keeps well, be sure to tell me about it!
