Upon my father's advice, I purchased a humidifier for my bedroom to help get me past this annoyingly-returned chest cold. Far from the noisy 'vaporizer' things I remember from my childhood, these now use ultrasonics to dampen the air with almost no sound... very nifty! Apparently I have selected a model a little too efficient for my room, however.

The good: I slept better last night than I have in the last two weeks. Yes, I think the uber-dry air we've had going of late was one of the factors keeping me down.

The better: I woke up to my own personal bedroom-edition of the game Myst. Delving through the foggy shadows of air to get dressed and then out the door was its own kind of otherworld cool.

I think I'll turn it down to 10% or 15% instead of full blow tonight. :)

*grins* You can't beat 'em Tug. I live for humidifiers in the winter. The dry air does nasty things to a body. It's not cold were you are but I'm sure it will help out immensely anyways.

step one to making your bedroom a dance club complete!
Now you just have to get lights and a spin stand?

Accessories.

This cries out for accessories.

Like intermittently flickering lights, and sound clips from the "Aliens" DOOM patch running in the background };>.

And of course I'm curious as to how this humidifier works =^.^=. Nifty, and practical, toy.

Excellent advice!

We also found that an air cleaner (one of those Sharper Image-ish things gotten from Frys instead) helped.

Suggestion -- get a therometer/hygrometer combo,
Rat Shack sells 'em for about $12 I think. It
helps me figure out how to set my humidifier to
around 50% humidity. Note -- you do need to clean
the humidifier thoroughly, and frequently, so it
doesn't grow mold or fungus. This is particularly
important with a "cool air" model like yours. I use
a Slant/Fin that flash-boils the water, but rather
than dealing with mold and fungus, I have boiler
scale to scrub. Ah well, at least I no longer wake up with a parched throat.

Cleaning humidifiers.

We dealt with that by spiking the water with bleach periodically. It worked, with the side effect of making our house smell faintly of chlorine whenever we added the bleach.

We had one of the old fan-and-rotating-fabric-drum humidifiers, which was quite prone to mildew if steps weren't taken to prevent it.

Having lived on river bank territory for a while, I recall many mornings walking outside and thinking to myself, "Ah! The mists of Ravenloft are here to claim me!" At least, jokingly thinking that.

Don't get sucked into an alternate universe, okay?
