On the plus side, 9/11 does provide some really cool moments when it comes to local military hardware.

In this particular case, it was coming home to find out that my own personal airspace was being used for refueling the patrol helicopters. The tanker was flying lazy circles right over my back yard, so I grabbed the camera and got them on the last loop-by. Sorry the picture's so hazy... I didn't have time to slap on a polarizing filter. Taken about 1/2 hour before this post:

I never knew they refueled helicopters with tanker planes! How can they make sure the rotor doesn't accidentally contact the fuel line?

My old man used to fly those exact same helicopters. If you look at the picture, you can see a long boom extending from the front of the copter. They also mount the booms rather low on the cockpit. That helps the rotor blades clear the fuel line. =-)
