Good things:
- The room scheduling problem with the photo shoot was resolved quickly and politely. Thanks, staffers!
- Once situated, the photo-shoots went well.
- Got to see a lot of friends not seen in a while, even if only briefly.
- Expenses were low (compared to last year's equipment build-out)
- Spending time with Noressa, Reba, Dancer and Davina was all quite grand.
- It was fun showing my older sister her first fur-con
- Overall, much better attitudes, behaviors and emotions, con-wide, at least from this one-horned viewpoint.
- Bought one thing: an excellent dragon-art portfolio by Caribou.
Downsides:
- My 540 EZ flash head may be a casuality. It just burned out. Grump.
- Having to work on Thursday and Friday sucked. Those were my only non-photo days, meaning I spent most of the rest of the con in the photo room.
- Rugburns on the elbows from all the laying-down-height shots. Ow.
- Missing Lynx and DesertCoyote by *thiiis* much for going to Japantown. Alas, had to start the 2nd-day shoot.
- Missing most all the 'social' side of the con.
And the real downer:
I really did enjoy the time there. It was definately better than last year -- hotel, people, attitude, photo-shoot, art and attendance-wise. It's just that between the length of the two 6+ hour shoots and the amount of time I didn't get off of work I didn't make a single group dinner or outside-of-con excursion. While I waved to a lot of folks it was only the smallest handful that had a few minutes to hang out and chat -- and most of those were the wonderful helpful ones in the photo room. Some of my other friends like Peggy and Cooner were either constantly being dragged off by otherfolk or, in the latter case, busy getting sick and hiding out in the rooms. Hope ya get better soon, John!
I did get some good compliments on weight loss and the hear-bead-thingys. Kind words really do wonders for the mood.

Date: 2003-01-27 05:10 pm (UTC)Didn't do any room parties, I haven't yet found any room parties that appeal to my sensibilities, so I've stopped trying. But having a photo-shoot that runs through all the evening hours kind of pole-axes most possible ways to have social fun with dealer's table-bound friends.
