My little sis is currently in the San Jose Police Academy, and loving it. Considering her military background, she's taking to the lifestyle there quite well.
During the 'families of the recruits' night last night we got to go on the shooting range and try out various weapons for fun. I always love doing that. What has me writing this entry, though, is that they handed us a call sheet that contained frequencies, 10-codes, and call-codes, and told us all we'd be wise to go buy a scanner to be able to listen in. It's a good way to keep track of how things are going with the job and therefore it's recommended for the spouses/family members of a new police recruit.
I know we have some good HAM-radio folks out there and probably a few scannerheads. Can anybody recommend a good, cheap scanner for this kind of use, that I could buy for my other family members? And, while you're at it, a good high end scanner with all the bells and whistles, in case I need to geek out over it? :) Thanks for any advice you guys (and gals) can give.
