I'm often finding and shuffling about bits of both obscure and modern technology. At times I get enough to make a coyote-box to either fill a need or give away, like my habit of rebuilding old laptops and handing them to friends. Other times I find something old but nifty to give to someone who values such things, like finding an original NeXT to give to Frang. I rarely keep the history-pieces myself unless they're something that I find incredibly interesting. It's more fun to nose them over to someone who really appreciates them.

Right now I've just scored quite a find. I'm trying to figure out which one of my friends (RL, on-muck, or LJ) are the biggest Apple nerds who want some functional history pieces.

I have in my collection Apple Newtons, Qty. 3. One is the 'new style' with the PCMCIA on the top, minus stylus, but wth two rechargable batteries, an external recharger, but no direct power cord (you can get one at radio shack) It's v1.3. Another is a very limited 'clear' edition, that says "In Appreciation for your contribution to the Lindy Project, January 1994". It has a stylus, power supply and runs v1.10. The third is the older style, with the PCMCIA on the side, a big sticker saying "Confidential: do not use in public areas", and a bunch of (now invalid) internal contact numbers/emails printed on the back. It has a power cord and is also v1.10. All three function though could probably use some TLC and software reloading before they function right.

As I'm sure I have more than one Newton-head friend I'd rather give one to each instead of all 3 to one person. If you have something nifty to trade (the point here is to share the 'oo, neat!' factor, not to gain or lose money) you'll get your pick of which of the three you want. :)

In the future I'll start posting more of these finds, as I've somewhat saturated my local friends with such things and it's time to spread the LURV around, LJ style. *chuckle* Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] yoru -- I found the memorychip! It's only 128, but it's yours if y'want it.
