Sorry if last night's post was rather info-free. The short version: I dropped by the Honda dealer on a whim as [livejournal.com profile] reality_fox and I were on the way to the trailer store to look at a potential motorcycle trailer for him. They had many Elements in stock and offered a test-ride. I told them my fiscal situation and how I most likely needed to get rid of one of the bikes in order to afford it, but they let me test-ride anyways.

Much to my relief, I not only fit, I could drive it pretty easily. The right-leg position is slightly cramped, but it's tolerable and will get better over time. Mostly I'm just spoiled by the acres of leg-room the old van had. The salesdrone mentioned that it was indeed possible to trade a Honda motorcycle in on a Honda car, which made getting the thing actually feasable. They also would take the beat up van in trade... so we stuck around and talked numbers, much to Reality_Fox's tolerating amusement.

In the end it turns out I got a decent return on my Van of Crappy Condition... enough so that I was able to get the Element straight up, without losing either bike (!!). They even had the 4WD EX version in stock and in my chosen blue color. I'll get pics later today and post 'em. The payments are exactly the same as my bike payments which is manageable. I'm still going to sell the GoldWing, but now I can wait until midsummer or later when I'm farther on the payment curve and the market is better for used bike sales (winter is the slowest season for selling bikes).

Right in the middle of this my stupid nextel phone went off. We had a group of engineers going to Japan for a major-future-of-the-business-important demo, getting on the plane in 6 hours. They decided today was the day to install new stuff in their demo environment and happened to choose a package with a wicked trojan in it. All their boxen are now belong to r00tz0r-h4ck3rboi. Poor Jesus (our main demo guy) completely lost one of his laptops in the process. They were in a panic and needed me now... and here I was with paperwork in hand, mid-transaction on a new vehicle. I begged off for 'one hour please' and got heck for doing so, but they agreed.

The whole process was rather hurried. This was the nicest salesdrone association I've worked with when it comes to buying a car, but still... it was fast. There was also some notable miscommunication between myself and the staff when it came to my need to take my old van home and huck it out. I wanted to remove the navi system, some of the audio, half of my photography gear that was still in the back and then 6 years of accumulated crap that was in every single nook and cranny of that beastly van. And, while this may sound silly... I kinda wanted to say goodbye. One last ride knowing it was the last ride, etc. Having the little jaunt from Armadillo Willy's up to the Capitol Expressway automall be the last one was kind of sad. I would have taken it over the Hicks loop or something. Yeah, I anthropomorphize my vehicles too damn much.

The moment I signed the paperwork the old van was theirs. The only way they could let it off the lot, insurance-wise, was to have one of their employees drive it for me. They offered to do so, but I had to go to my office for an unknown length of time to fix things... and I couldn't have their employee sit there all day. Reality_fox and I swiped some bankers-boxes from their staff, put the new Element and old Tug-van together and did a 10-minute power-transfer of stuff. While Reality emptied every cubbyhole and stuff-pouch, I got under the seats and did an emergency Navi-ectomy and CD-changer recovery. They pretty much stated the van was in crappy enough condition they were going to sell it for engine-and-parts, so they let me dike out anything I could in the time I had. I ended up leaving the pop-out monitor in the dash, but as it's an ancient CVA1000 it was a tolerable loss. The Navi can be used with other monitor solutions, and I'll probably find someone to give it away to now that I have the Garmin.

The van was ripped from me, and I found myself in my new Element, the back completely full of the stuff taken from the old van. I zoomed to the office, found out how bad the problem was, got them fixed enough to deal, and finally took Reality home. The other issues I mentioned last post will get covered later in another entry, but some of them are kind of personal and will probably get edited down. And besides, Reality is back here now and beating on my door for us to go out and do the shopping we aborted yesterday. Seeya!

*boggles*

Your engineers decided Saturday was a perfect day for installing new packages and picked one up that was infested with a Trojan... What did they do, get it from 'M4d l337 Haxx0rz Gr8t Packagez Site'?

Congratulations on the new car and on the super-fast transfer! Why don't you ask if they'd be willing to save you the other parts and any extra junk they happen to find? They sound like nice people.

Gnarly! I'm not a big SUV fan, but of the ones I do really like, they're all really unusual looking ones like the Honda Element, the Xterra, and the Pontiac Aztek, that have all sorts of cool functionality.

I assume it'll be filled with awesome Tug-tech soon enough. :D
