To those of you who are dropping by my journal thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pseudomanitou's kind link, welcome!

While most of my LJ is friends-locked, I've been spending the last few weeks privately chatting about entering the digital printing market. I'll have a business website together soon instead of just scribblings here on the journal. The quick version is that I'm taking my little company, Monoceros Media, away from portrait photography and into digital presswork. I'll still be doing portrait-work at the local (Bay Area) conventions and photography in general, but instead of concentrating on keeping a photo studio running, I'm investing the time and resources necessary into the output side of the process.

The systems I've built are fully color-managed and regularly calibrated -- send me a properly profiled image and I'll treat your colors right! It's a full Giclée set-up capable of handling both native CMYK and true RGB ink-colors, as well as 4-level monochrome for b/w prints. I'm currently set up to print on a wide range of media at up to 44" wide, including:

  • Low-cost poster material
  • High-gloss photographic papers
  • Self-adhesive vinyl and tyvek
  • Outdoor vinyl banner
  • Laser-perf vinyl (aka 'bus window graphics')
  • Ultrasmooth, fiber-based, textured and velvet matte papers (aka 'fine art papers')
  • Perl, semi-matte and glossy fiber exhibition papers
  • Textured portrait gloss papers
  • Cotton broadsheet, silk and midweight cloth
  • Stretchable cotton canvas, both matte and coated
  • Transparencies

All materials are shipped in heavyweight mailing tubes with proper end-buffering to avoid damage in shipment, via either FedEx or USPS. If you're Bay-Area local you're welcome to pick up print jobs or I can drop them off (for quantity orders). I can handle vector-based (.EPS, Adobe Illustrator) or raster (photos, artwork, about any format) images, as well as most direct Camera RAW images at full bit depth.

I don't have my full pricing quotes online yet but as I'm just now getting this business rolling I'll be working at a discount. One things settle in I'll establish final prices and get them posted to my business website.

There's no minimum quantity and I'm fandom/convention friendly, both in content and deadlines. I also gladly perform digital storage and 'just in time' printing, sales and logistics for those artists who are looking for a 'print house' to handle it all for them. My image storage systems are secure (15 years as a Network Engineer) and I honor all copyrights diligently.

I'll put up better details and more info soon. If you want to keep up with the daily ins-and-outs of all my testing and setting up of this system, just friend this journal and I'll add you to the PrintBiz security group. Once the business web-site is up I'll move the discussions to a forum/blog over there.

If you're attending this year's Anthrocon and want to see a sample of my work, please look at Pseudo Manitou's poster prints in the art show as well as this year's 4'x6' AC Dance charity poster in the charity auction.

Again, welcome! Need any prints done? :)

Tempting to get conference posters printed through you instead of Kinkos, but I'm unfortunately not going to EI this year };>. Glad things are coming together!
