As a side note, Revar and Dracosphynx finished the steampunk costume clasp they were working on. It uses a number of the available Monoceros Metalworks technologies. It's got milled brass, precision metal cutting, chemical aging and laser-carved wood. The unit opens and shuts with the original watch pushbutton mechanism and will be worn around the neck. It looks good and is quite functional. Oh, and being mostly brass and copper it weighs in at a hefty 5.5oz.

I'll let Dracosphynx leave comments on precise aging technologies and such things later if desired. :)

This is the culmination of a many weekends of work (and various hasty redesigns on the fly at times.) It's been a learning experience! The wings are 1/16th inch copper plate, with a blue patina mix applied to the insets and somewhat more lightly applied to the entire surface. The pocket watch was bought, then gutted and modified a bit to take the new pieces, but the button to open the front was kept (with a lot of luck and effort.) The inside is brass, with a laser-cut oak veneer clock face, and the very center is chemically aged copper.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to artificially grow a literal copper patina on it };>. Immersing in high-concentration hydrogen peroxide is probably the safest way. Using potassium chlorate and a toaster oven would work too, but would probably be more exothermic than you'd like =^.^=.

That's pretty lovely, and the first thing you've posted I can say that I actually covet. Scarab like.

Ha, that's cool. Somehow seems reminiscent of Full Metal Alchemist. Maybe the combination of the wings and the pocket watch.

The wings make me think "Wulfenbach", myself, but other than that there's little resemblance, alas };>
