Ten Tikis Thundering Through
Dec. 31st, 2008 04:25 amSo far I have ten submissions into The Tiki Project. Yesterday I finally got every one of them properly vectored into Corel, sized, array-aligned, cut-out prepped and laser checked. The backs are all set up with the official "Surf Safari" convention logo, the Monoceros Media logo and the logo/website of each tiki's artist. I've been posting finished tikis to my moblog picture filter list on and off over the last few days.
Each tiki will be laser-carved out of 1/8" alder wood. There are going to be 32 of each design, all individually numbered on the back. One pack containing one of each design (I'm going to use the #5's, just because) will be put together and sold as a unit on FurBid, so that at least one person who isn't going to FC can get them if they want.
Since folks may be curious, here are the 10 designs currently in the queue:

The artists involved so far are Yelth, Dook, Dusty, HonahLee, Jill0r, Ellen, Helvetica, Messorius and EmoBurd. Each one will be getting a 12-pack of "artist's proof" editions of their designs. They differ from the production tikis in that they only have the artist's signature and website on the backs; no cluttered con-logos, numbers or production logos. They are for the individual contributors to keep, sell or give away as they choose for participating. :)
Because I've managed to get so far on this before the new year without completely upsetting my other projects-in-motion, I can still accept more designs. I'm going to cap it off at 15 tiki-types total, though I'm actually happy with the 10 I have should no more come in. If anybody else still wishes to get in on this, please drop me a line soon! Tomorrow when the last of the batches are laser-cut I'll post a follow-up, with pictures of the actual wooden trinkets instead of just the drawings. And this time I'll use a real camera and not my cruddy iPhone cel-camera, I promise! :)
