Wooden Collaboration

cooner is an excellent artist. For years now he's created some amazing badges that he sells at conventions. I think my all the tiki-carving caught his interest, convincing him to give working in laser-engraved wood a try. His skills at linework and halftone screening from all his comic illustration work come in very handy for this media.
He surprised me with a test badge that I get to keep! I was more than happy to help him work out how best to make it happen. After a few tweaks and nudges and a few wasted bits of wood we figured out the right combination of screening size and power levels. The result worked great. Not only does a carved wooden badge fit well with the "Surf Safari" convention theme, but they have that wonderful fireplace-wood smell.

If you want one of these for yourself, he's selling them over on his journal for a very reasonable price considering the effort that goes into them. You can also check them out on his FurAffinity page. They're cut out of 1/8" alder wood in a big and sturdy size. They'll make for a long-lasting souvenir.

That's Cooner modeling the badge to show its scale, of course. :) Mostly, though, I'm excited that I have a new badge for this year and the convention isn't even here yet!
