Tubes, Trophies and Tikis
Jan. 12th, 2009 01:01 amBusybusy weekend; no rest for the blue critters this close to the convention. Saturday was spent hanging out with
smokepaw and
yelth as well as doing printwork for convention clients. Sunday was far more involved, working on a few tiki designs, spending a half-day with
foofers and his buddy working on Masquerade trophies and spending some time in the shop.
As
dustykat mentioned in his journal, the fursuit head dryer was assembled today. He and
smackjackal spent a lot of time and did an exceptional job.

As for all the laser time, most of it was spent hacking on acrylic and wood to put together a proper set of trophies for this year's masquerade. These are work-in-progress pictures only. They'll be even cooler looking once Foofs is done finessing them. He did all the artwork and design; I'm just the tool'noceros with the laser and CNC woodcarver.

The last tikis of the weekend were completed just before midnight, bringing a close to the work-weekend festivities. I managed to complete a 32-set of Kitsumi's little foxes and a 16-pack of Synnabar's assorted hula-bunnies. :)

Interleaved with this I also managed to get a pack of prints for Astolpho out the door, though I ran out of time to help him with some wood-plaque work; that'll have to happen later this week. Nambroth's prints are sprayed and tubed up, too... I just have to ship them on Monday. Three other jobs will get done Monday or Tuesday night. Then I check my email box to see what else has come in since then. Oif!
So far I have the 10 numbered sets of tikis and four of the extra un-numbered sets, but I've now run out of wood. More has been ordered but there's no guarantee it'll be here in time. The other few designs that've arrived may or may not get made as a result. Besides, we're reaching tiki-oversaturation here. It's been an incredible learning-opportunity of a project that I've loved working on... but wow, that's a lot of wood. :)
