Spotted in a suburban San Jose PetCo store:

We were buying a cat-door to InOutAnytime enable our felines, and this was one of the machines we passed on the way out of the store. Someone, somewhere, is probably very offended by this. Obviously they're popular, though, if they're hitting suburban pet stores in generi-suburbia. My other roomie (Glum) tells me there was some huge flap over these toys down in the LA area, but surprisingly not from the Latino crowd. Go figure.

Just thought I'd share. :)

Yah - the "Homeez" line of merchandise is being Latino-made and Latino-marketed... so of course, since it plays off of charicatures and stereotypes, all the caucasians are upset by it.

Um.

Yeah.

Homies... :X)

Actually, down here in Florida, they're pretty hot collectibles.

I guess it's a regional thing. The folks here don't seem to have a problem with them. I've actually seen collections of them going on Ebay...

Reminds me of something that happened to Stormdragon and I a few months back...

We were also visiting a PetCo, and among the vending machines in the entryway was one selling "Poo Pets," which are little plastic animals that apparently, when squeezed, emit a small brown pellet of plastic. And we were likewise sufficiently amused by this that a photograph was in order. (Two attempts at 50 cents a pop failed to yield us a Poo Pet...instead we received a "God Bless America" button and some strange rabbit fur keychain thing that's proven very effective as a cat toy. But no Poo Pets.)

So Stormdragon is lining up his shot, and some customer guy on his way out of the store looks at him, then looks at what he's photographing, and asks, "Why are you taking a picture of that?" We were trying to explain that it was silly in such a way that you can't just describe it to people, you need to show them the whole display for the full effect. Guy says it's not funny, that you can find these things everywhere, like some truck parts store that he mentioned.

I guess we're missing out on all life has to offer by not hanging out at truck parts stores.
