Caught this one on the TV last week. Links on the net finally started popping up. Not only is it a very-much-favorite 80's song (Major Tom by Peter Schilling) but the cover -- the 20-some seconds we're allowed to hear of it -- sounds amazing. I had to know who it was.

Turns out it's a group I already like, one that emoburd of all people got me hooked on: Shiny Toy Guns. But thanks to the marketing stuff going on with Lincoln there are currently no plans to release the full length single of this.

...yet.

Heh. I had a similar reaction while watching it: Is it wise to advertise a car using a song in which someone dies due to their vehicle malfunctioning?

I was so tickled when I saw that commercial, because their *last* commercial used a cover of the song that originally inspired "Major Tom" -- David Bowie's "Space Oddity".

Check out the Shiny Toy Guns webpage - Major Tom is now a free download (well, if you give up an email address, anyway...) At first I thought it wasn't the same version as the ad, but that's just because it was rearranged a little.
