For reasons I've yet to comprehend, I'm currently on a "groove" trip, music-wise. I'm no connoisseur; in fact I know almost nothing about the genre. Artists like Luther Vandross, the O'Jays, the Delphonics... all the tracks all have that mellow, smooth flow without the damnably sterile 'coffee and sunday mornings' nature that plagues light jazz. And those vocals... wow. In seeking out more of this, I again turn to my love of satellite broadcast media. XM's channel 64 has firmly planted itself on preset button #9. The soundtrack of the movie Jackie Brown is also a guilty pleasure.

It's a wonderful chill out... and it mixes in perfectly with my usual diet early-electronica, trance, and 80's tunes. Going from Art of Noise's "Crusoe" into Bobby Womac's "Across 100th Street" and then straight on to Yello's "Homage to the Mountain" just seems to work.

Hmm. Mabye this is why the net-radio station Groove Salad (from SomaFM) works so well for me. It's a fusion of ambient, techno and more smooth, groove-rooted elements. It varies a lot, sure, but there are times that station just nails it.
