First things first: I'll be responding to all the RSVPs with a group email tonight and/or tomorrow, containing the shop address, additional contact info and suchlike. If you've not received a response by the end of Monday, please, email me again or leave an LJ comment!

Second: [livejournal.com profile] super_jayhawk and I are sitting here doing the Food Planning Thing. This is the point where I tell folks "we would very much appreciate any additional snacks, side-dishes or drinks you wish to bring". If you're going to just bring a six-pack of something or other small item, no worries, just bring it along. If, however, you have a Big Dish(tm) or a huge quantity of drink (be it soda, beer or otherwise), please let me know so we can work it into the food planning. :) We're going to have plenty but it's always fun to have others add in.

Food we're planning on having already:

  • Burgers
  • Hot dogs
  • Roasted veggies
  • Veggie trays (carrots, celery, etc)
  • Mac-n-cheese
  • Chips, pretzels, salsa, crackers, etc
  • Sodas
  • Beer

Things that would be Very Welcome:

  • Extra sodas, punch, or other soft drinks (cans are best)
  • Any types of beer you want to share
  • Extra ice to top us off through the day
  • Your favorite brand of pretzels, chips, or crackers
  • Various dips for the above
  • Picnic-ish side dishes: watermelon, potato salad, fresh fruits
  • Anything salad-ish
  • Anything desseertish!

Special Bonus Points for things like pies and other special treats. :)

Any other suggestions?

Would it be acceptable to marinate, bring, and cook some tastey tri-tip steaks for nibbling?

Can I get you to talk directly with Super_Jayhawk? For that level of cookery you need to coordinate with him. :)

Oh, and BTW, a big *yes* on the tables and chairs!

Sure, bring what you've got and we'll grill it! I may see about bringing some tri-tip as well.

I'm wondering... can you laser cut ginger-bread?

Oh never mind. It's a silly bunny idea.

Engrave/mark, yes.
Cut... yes but you wouldn't like what it does to the flavor!

Which does beg the question of what kind of weapons of creme brulee crustification you have about.
But that would mean I would need to find a place to get pans of the stuff... bother.

hmmm... other than the mess, the geek-chef possiblities are "interesting".

Laser creme-brulee...
Etched Marshmellows...
Smores...

"Tool Time" cooking challenge, GO!

It's amazing what you can to with a CNC machine and a cucumber...

I wonder if there will be "Extreme Pumpkin Carving" classes?

Unfortunately, pumpkins are not yet in season.

How about watermelons?

But does this mean that if we took gingerbread, then laid down a smooth even layer of thick sugar icing on top of it and allowed the icing to harden, we could engrave on the icing?

This is different from using the inkjet-on-giclee process, so I'm curious if it would have the necessary control for it.

Well, I'd think that you might be able to use Revar's CNC machine to do some cool etchings if the icing was hard enough. The real question is where would the queue form up to lick Revar's icing covered bits clean?

Ahhh! My bits! My precious expensive bits!

Actually, given how hard the mill is to clean up, I'd give 50/50 odds of there being metal slivers and flakes in any food you carved on it.

Yes, the laser does have that level of control.
More interesting, perhaps... Put a layer of powdered sugar on it, and use the laser to sinter the sugar.

Well, I'll be bringing a few loaves of my apple cinnamon bread. Perhaps we can try sugaring and sintering a slice or two of that.
