Reporting for duty, Sir!
May. 26th, 2003 03:59 amHoly Crap on Toast.
I picked up the RAM upgrade required to play Planetside sometime midday Saturday (noon-ish?). After a wonderful dinner at Frang's, I played from 9pm to 8am. I napped. Got up, had brunch, started playing again at 3pm Sunday. it's now 4am, and I just finished.
This game is just too dang fun.
The ironic thing? I may not pay for the $10 subscription after my free month runs out. If the past day and a half's severe-addiction behavior is any indicator, this will eat my life far worse than Tribes2 ever did. I stopped playing Tribes2 because I was getting depressed at finding nights and weekends simply vanishing into the game. This is a far better game. Far more involved. Far more addicting.
I'm scared.
(but damn, it's fun)

Date: 2003-05-26 06:17 am (UTC)I still play Tribes 2 sometimes. It's fun to own the people who try to be gung-ho cowboys. :)

Date: 2003-05-26 01:23 pm (UTC)Take Tribes. Now make it so instead of the normal semi-small Tribes2 maps you have a continent. Make this continent visually stunning in comparison to Tribes, with weather effects, vegetation and all kinds of graphics $bling$. Enough to require major computer upgrades.
Now make that continent one of 10 on a planet. A planet that's fought over by 3 factions.
Make 5 of those planets. That's Planetside.
It's an infrastructure-lover's dream, game-wise. :)

Date: 2003-06-07 04:15 am (UTC)I love Tribes2, but the problem I seem to have is that everyone in the public servers is, to put it lightly, scum. I got voted out of one game simply because I was a newbie, despite having done nothing wrong. And that was after being chased down and killed by someone on my own team. Twice.
...So, um... is Planetside actually populated by slightly more mature players? :)

Date: 2003-06-11 01:30 am (UTC)Planetsiders seem to be far more tolerant of newbies than Tribesers... *especially* because the game has been out there less than a month. Everybody's a newbie.
And, yes... slightly more mature players. Again, it's part of existing in a persistant world and having no choice but to work together to win.

Date: 2003-05-26 01:24 pm (UTC)I'm not much of a space-priate type of player, though. I'm more into the personal ground-pounding aspects which addicted me to T2. But I may still give Eve Online a try sometime soon. :)
