tugrikBrought home the 'Wing today with the new Dunlop D250s.

I like them. Best the Hondapotamus (blame Farix for that nickname) has ever felt; much better than the stock Bridgestones and far better than the wobbly Metzelers. This means the 'Wing is now prepped and ready to take on the trip if I needed it. This is handy, because...
I think I figured out a 'best of the best' solution. Now that both bikes are prepped for the long haul... I'll take both! I'll do the long ride to San Diego on the GS while I'm still fresh (the best rider-longetivity is always on the first day of the trip), and use it up until the Friday following, when we get to Auburn. Instead of going to Vallejo that night for Yet Another Party (I'm not much of a party-type), I'll nip the extra 70 miles down to home, as that's the closest point the trip gets to the house. I'll spend the night in my own bed (aaaaaah) and swap to the GoldWing. I'll rejoin the crew that morning in Vallejo, and ride with them up to Eureka, which is the end of the actual scheduled ride. From there I'll head up to the parents' house for Memorial Day, and then use the 'wing for exactly what it's meant for: the long superslab ride home down I5.
Why didn't I think of this before?
