Rants, Raves and Rocksters
Sep. 24th, 2003 11:53 am(ex-)Rant: While sitting at the motorcycle dealer I got an email from my boss (yay wireless leash-tech) that was a return to his whiny, passive-aggressive days of 6 months ago. On the ride in to work I'd frothed up a good, fervent rant about it. Since arriving at my desk and getting a few things done the rant has cooled and faded away. This means that I've either gotten used to his ways and can live with it or my give-a-care gland finally burned out. Either way I'm happier. His problems are solved and he's gone quiet again, and that's the important part.
Raves: Swimming rules. My legs feel SO much better today after an hour of kickboarding around in the water. Shallow-water stretching and a good bout of hot-tubbing afterwards added to the relief. Going back tonight is definitely on the list. It's also been a wonderful week so far for music. The phenomenon that
traveller_blues calls Psychic Radio has been going strong since late Sunday.
And the most fun part? Rocksters.
The reason I was at the motorcycle dealer was to turn in my 1150GS. There's a recall out on the rear brake line they need to clean up and it needed an oil change anyway. The appointment was made a week ago and the nice folks at CalBMW assured me they'd have one of their bumblebee-yellow 650GS loaner bikes ready for me so I could get back to work. I showed up on time as did the loaner bike... but when I went to ride it they found out it had no brakes. Whoops!
CalBMW also has Triumph bikes as loaners but I know from prior painful experience that I don't fit on them at all. The clock was ticking on getting back to work and the email from my boss (the one mentioned in the not-a-rant) was of the 'get in here or it's going to be an ISSUE' variety. Just as I was about to suggest taking the 1150 back and returning another day a very devious Evil Saleswoman Temptress paddled a lime green Rockster into the service bay and handed me the keys.

Oooooo.
I've mentioned the Rockster in a previous post. It's got the same engine as my 1150GS but it's a 'naked street bike' class. Lighter, far more nimble and tighter of suspension, it will rule over my current bike on-road. It can handle mild offroading but it's really not made for it. The rear tire is wider and the rubber quite a bit more grippy. Even the short ride back from work was enough to know that this little street-rod likes to dance.
Trying to be good, I was sure to inform the sales-lady that I'd be careful and bring it right back. Her "I have you now, foolish mortal!" grin was classic. "No... take your time. Break it in for us and give it a good work out. It's well insured and it's a demo bike anyways. Let us know what you think."
Evil, I tell you. The power of the dark side is seductive indeed. I think "lunch" will be a multi-hour affair and the workday will have to end just a wee bit early. There's some riding to do.
