...but I feel so much better.

Spent today off the knee-meds to see how it'd go. Proceeded to have a seriously tough day followed by a tiring aerobics session. Forgot to eat... whoops.

By the time dinner rolled around (well after 9pm) I found I wanted comfort food now, dangit. Revar and I hit the grocery store and I whipped up some Generic Midwestern Whiteboy Burritos: spiced ground beef (using garlic, onion and all kinds of wonderful things), macaroni in a white cheddar and broccoli sauce, a sprinkling of various other cheeses and a bit of ketchup, all wrapped up in an oversized flour tortilla shell.

Sounds terrible, doesn't it? Think of it instead as a very odd version of a cheeseburger. It's far better, though, and incredibly filling. Using low-fat cheese and 4% (ultra low-fat) ground beef makes it not as bad for you as the greasebomb burger normally acquired from a fast food place.

I don't know if this makes me terribly un-cultured or just strangely cultured. Either way I'm well fed and downright happy feeling. Comfort food. Mmmmmm. *zones out torpidly*

As long as you're fed, hey, cool. I probably wouldn't have done the macaroni-and-broccoli, but hey, if it works...

Something I haven't had in a long time, potato-cheese-beef tacos (in the crispy corn shells). Mom used to make those 'cause I was terrible about eating lettuce. Still am, for that matter, which is why I should try and make those sometimes. Mm, tacos.

You may argue that I might as well get a piroshki if I'm going to do that, to which I'd reply, 'Mm, piroshkis.' But the chili does make a diff in the 'ethnic flair'.

I simply cannot read that on my overly full stomach. Egads. Probably not as bad if I weren't stuffed to HERE!

Could you give me an actual recipe for this?

Do Midwesterners *have* to put macaroni in *everything*?

That's almost as bad as putting that stuff into chili. //shudder//

Mmm...Comfort food. You know what my comfort food is? Hotdogs. Weird. Well...not so weird. I'll write about that later today, I think.

Ohh...That and DeathDip. One block of cream cheese melted into one can of Hormel Chillie w/out beans. Mmmm...Oh so good and oh so very bad for you. Just add chips.

Oh great, now I am curious just what the hell that tastes like. Man, I curse my curious streak sometimes.
So umm what does that taste like?

Cream of Mushroom soup made with 1/2 can of milk, on cooked wide egg noodles. Bliss...

It's what I make when it's cold outside and I have had a crappy day.

Comfort foods...

We all have our own comfort foods, where we just say damn the calories because it just tastes too damn good.
I have to admit, Tugrik, that I wouldn't have thought of putting macaroni in a burrito (since you already have the tortilla wrapper), but it does make a lot of sense in its own way. It's the broccoli in the cheese sauce I'd find as an odd flavor in a burrito. Could have done worse, though.

And, for Impytoes, a comfort food taught to me by one of my housemates:

Hoosh-Me (Don't ask me about the name--that's what he called it.)

Ingredients:

1-1 1/2 lb. hamburger (fat content is up to you)

1 can (10 1/2 oz.) peas

1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup

1 can (4.5oz) sliced mushrooms

2 tbsp. Worcestishire sauce

1 pkg extra wide egg noodles

Preparation:

In a large cooking pot, set 5 quarts of water on high heat to come to a boil.

In a frying pan or skillet, brown the ground beef and crumble. Drain off excess fat (or as much fat to taste, depending on your taste).

Add Worcestishire sauce to hamburger and stir to combine. Then add cream of mushroom soup, mushrooms, and peas, and stir to a thick sauce consistency. (Reserve liquid from peas and mushrooms to add as required to get the desired consistency.)

Add noodles to boiling water and cook as per package directions. (Typically this is about 7-9 minutes.) Drain well.

Serve hamburger mixture over noodles, or mix together to serve more as a side dish.

(Serves 4-6)

P.S.: My personal comfort food? What else would you expect from a Nor'easter? Yankee Pot Roast.

You've probably forgotten your plain ramen, wonderbread/bologna/potato chip sandwich, snack crouton, and can'o'beans days, 'cause that menu you posted sounds almost urbane to me.

All these recipes need to go into a cookbook. "Comfort Food for the White Trash Soul?" Aack! Bad brain!
