I feel so white-trash
Oct. 21st, 2003 12:06 am...but I feel so much better.
Spent today off the knee-meds to see how it'd go. Proceeded to have a seriously tough day followed by a tiring aerobics session. Forgot to eat... whoops.
By the time dinner rolled around (well after 9pm) I found I wanted comfort food now, dangit. Revar and I hit the grocery store and I whipped up some Generic Midwestern Whiteboy Burritos: spiced ground beef (using garlic, onion and all kinds of wonderful things), macaroni in a white cheddar and broccoli sauce, a sprinkling of various other cheeses and a bit of ketchup, all wrapped up in an oversized flour tortilla shell.
Sounds terrible, doesn't it? Think of it instead as a very odd version of a cheeseburger. It's far better, though, and incredibly filling. Using low-fat cheese and 4% (ultra low-fat) ground beef makes it not as bad for you as the greasebomb burger normally acquired from a fast food place.
I don't know if this makes me terribly un-cultured or just strangely cultured. Either way I'm well fed and downright happy feeling. Comfort food. Mmmmmm. *zones out torpidly*

Date: 2003-10-21 12:16 am (UTC)Something I haven't had in a long time, potato-cheese-beef tacos (in the crispy corn shells). Mom used to make those 'cause I was terrible about eating lettuce. Still am, for that matter, which is why I should try and make those sometimes. Mm, tacos.
You may argue that I might as well get a piroshki if I'm going to do that, to which I'd reply, 'Mm, piroshkis.' But the chili does make a diff in the 'ethnic flair'.

Date: 2003-10-21 09:18 am (UTC)Oh great, now I am curious just what the hell that tastes like. Man, I curse my curious streak sometimes.
So umm what does that taste like?

Date: 2003-10-21 09:41 am (UTC)It's what I make when it's cold outside and I have had a crappy day.
Comfort foods...
Date: 2003-10-21 10:54 am (UTC)I have to admit, Tugrik, that I wouldn't have thought of putting macaroni in a burrito (since you already have the tortilla wrapper), but it does make a lot of sense in its own way. It's the broccoli in the cheese sauce I'd find as an odd flavor in a burrito. Could have done worse, though.
And, for Impytoes, a comfort food taught to me by one of my housemates:
P.S.: My personal comfort food? What else would you expect from a Nor'easter? Yankee Pot Roast.
